Becoming a Notary Public

Qualifications:
You must be 18 years of age or older, a Michigan resident, and reside in Alcona County.

Procedure:
Applicant must purchase a $10,000 bond from an insurance company. Bond is then filed with the County Clerk along with a $10.00 filing fee. Applicant fills out a notary application form given to them by the Clerks’ staff or downloaded from the Secretary of State.
Completed application must contain the County Clerk’s seal and signature. The application form must then be sent by the applicant to the “State of Michigan” along with a check or money order in the amount of $10.00.
Notary commission will be sent directly to the applicant and will be valid for 6 to 7 years.
