MISSION:
Reduce substance abuse, crime, and recidivism while promoting public safety, individual responsibility, and citizenship by integrating substance abuse treatment with intensive supervision and frequent judicial oversight for non-violent drug and alcohol dependent defendants within the criminal justice system.
HISTORY:
The 23rd Circuit and 81st District Recovery Court began accepting participants from Alcona County in June 2005. In October 2010 the court expanded its service area to include Iosco and Oscoda Counties.
OVERVIEW:
The Recovery Court is an alternative sentencing option for non-violent offenders with substance abuse addictions who live in or around Alcona, Iosco, or Oscoda Counties. The Recovery Court employs a team approach that combines judicial supervision with multiple treatment options. The Recovery Court is designed to help participants end their cycle of drug and alcohol addiction and become productive, contributing members of our communities.
Recovery Court is a 12-24 month program that requires participants to comply with frequent drug and alcohol testing, case management, substance abuse treatment, judicial review hearings, and other requirements. Recovery Court utilizes incentives and sanctions to help participants stay on track with their individual program.
ELIGIBILITY:
Recovery Court can accept individuals that meet the following criteria:
Adult offender (eighteen years of age or older)
Charged with a felony offense, misdemeanor offense, or violation of probation in the counties of Alcona, Iosco, or Oscoda
Non-violent offender (as defined in 42 U.S.C. 3797u-2)
Resident of/near Alcona, Iosco, or Oscoda County
Have a documented substance abuse problem
REFERRAL:
Participants can be identified and referred to Recovery Court by judges, prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, probation officers, police officers, community members, or self-referrals. Referrals must be approved by the arresting jurisdiction’s Prosecuting Attorney in order to be screened for the drug court program. Drug Court Referral Form
