The Alcona County Building Division is dedicated to ensuring public safety in all construction and development projects within our community. We achieve this by enforcing building codes and zoning ordinances, and meticulously maintaining records related to the construction, alteration, and demolition of buildings and structures.
As mandated by Michigan State law in 2004, Alcona County has adopted and enforces the Michigan Building Code and the Michigan Residential Code. These codes establish minimum requirements to protect public health, safety, and general welfare. This includes addressing structural strength, safe exits, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, energy conservation, and protection from fire and other hazards. These codes also prioritize the safety of firefighters and emergency responders during operations.
The Alcona County Building Division is committed to serving our community. We strive to provide an efficient and user-friendly permitting process while maintaining accurate records. Our goal is to contribute to a high standard of living for all residents of Alcona County.
